His love of God brought him to the pulpit in 1994, under the tutelage, of the great Reverend Dr. Richard H. Dixon, Jr. and was ordained in 1997. He served as an Associate Minister and Youth Minister for 15 years. In 2009, during a transition period for his home church, the Historic Macedonia Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York, he accepted the request to serve as Interim Pastor. In 2011, Rev.

Morton became the 7th Pastor and religious leader of Macedonia, where he received his conversion and baptism.

For decades, Rev. Morton, a product of urban culture, has focused his community efforts on the interplay between faith and education. Professionally, he serves as the Comptroller/CFO for the City of Mount Vernon, NY. His previous positions in Mount Vernon include, Chief of Staff for Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, Commissioner of Planning and Community Development, Commissioner of Recreation. He has been an adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Administration at the College of New Rochelle; in addition to over 25 years of experience in several Higher Education administrative and teaching positions, last serving as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of the Vincentian Institute for Social Action, (VISA) at St. John’s University in Queens, NY.

His civic leadership includes being elected to the Mount Vernon Public Library Board of Trustees in 2014 and having served as 1st Vice President of United Black Clergy of Westchester, District Leader for Mt Vernon Democratic Committee, and his non-profit board experience includes Big Brothers and Sisters of Brooklyn & Queens Advisory; president of Youth Shelter of Westchester; Wartburg Foundation; and chairman of both the William Ross Education Foundation, and the Wesley Parrott Youth Programs. Additionally, Dr. Morton has served the community in various ways, inclusive of leadership roles with treasurer of the Mount Vernon Urban Renewal Agency; Youth Council of NAACP; Interfaith Clergy for Social Action of Westchester; and as the 24th Eastern Region Vice President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Rev. Morton holds a Doctorate in Education from St. John Fisher College, where his dissertation topic was entitled, “ From Integration to Resegregation: Examining the Role of Black Clergy as 21st Century Leaders in Public Education Reform” and is a graduate of Hofstra and St. John’s Universities, where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration and Masters of Education degrees, respectively. Also he is a graduate of Tabernacle Bible Institute and Manhattan Bible Institute and has taken graduate theology courses at St. John’s University.

Rev. Morton has received over 110 awards and commendations for his selfless services to humanity. In 2011, he created the D. Morton Enterprises, LLC., a consultant firm, focused on developing strong community-based, educational and non-profit organizations, with a special interest in social justice. Most notably he is the proud father of three adult children: Coleman, Chakka and Daniel, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, which he considers to be his most treasured blessing from the Lord.
